Born and raised in a small rural town in Brazil, I enjoyed a simple, happy life until my parents' separation shattered our world. My mother, sister, and I were left with nothing but broken hearts and what we could carry in a suitcase. We moved from place to place, relying on the kindness of others for shelter. I felt deep anger and shame, vowing that my future children would never endure such pain and hardship.

In 2008, driven by desperation and determination, I moved to the U.S. I started as an au pair, then worked as a nanny, surviving on dollar menu meals while striving for a better life. After years of hard work, I became a certified nutritionist, but despite my passion, it wasn’t enough to make ends meet. In 2016, I finally broke into the corporate world and felt immense gratitude.

However, after becoming a mother, the economy took a scary turn, and financial pressures mounted. My husband and I moved in with his parents to save for a house, but even after a year, our dream of owning a home had be postponed. Our savings dwindled, tensions rose, and living paycheck to paycheck strained our marriage. One day, during a grocery trip, we argued over our budget. When we found ourselves putting back fresh produce because we couldn’t afford it, I broke down in tears, overwhelmed by the fear of reliving my past.
